Boreal Beauty is noted for yielding very large fruit with excellent flavour. Its fruit firm, mostly oval and hold onto branches with just the right amount of force to pick and are great tasting.

This University of Saskatchewan introduction produces blueberry-like fruit that ripens as early as Strawberries. Also known as Honeyberries or Blue Honeysuckle, Canadian Haskap are superior to any other Honeyberries with sweeter, wild Blueberry flavour and larger, fleshier fruit not unlike oversize Blueberries. The plant themselves are extremely cold tolerant and these are a great fruit alternative for cold climates.

Haskap, an exciting new crop for North America, is particularly well suited for northern areas. Its unique, complex taste is reminiscent of a tasty blend of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.

Its powder blue to dark blue fruits are elongated and grow on a shrub 4 to 5 feet tall at maturity.

The qualities that make it a plant of choice for northern cultivation refer to its high resistance to cold for the shrub (-47 degrees Celsius) and for its flowers (-7 degrees Celsius) as well as its ability to remain dormant during a winter mildness.

Requires a pollinator.   Good pollinator Aurora and Berry Blue.

 

Vigorous bush of 1.3 to 1.7 M. Upright and spread. Good resistance to mildew.

Harvest and yield:

Excellent yield. Will pollinate other varieties of University of Saskatchewan. Ease of picking.

Shape is like a stretched pear. Size average is 1.9 grams Ideal for gardens and u-pick.
