Syringa reticulata ‘Ivory Silk’ is a small-stature Japanese tree lilac known for its fragrant, creamy-white flowers, attractive bark, and adaptability in landscapes.

Description

The ‘Ivory Silk’ Japanese tree lilac grows as a small tree or large shrub, typically reaching 20–25 feet tall and 15–20 feet wide with a rounded or oval crown. Its creamy-white, fragrant flowers bloom in dense, upright panicles 6–12 inches long in late spring to early summer, later than most other lilac species. After flowering, the blossoms form loose clusters of tan or brown seed capsules that persist into winter. The tree features lanceolate to ovate, dark green leaves up to 5–6 inches long and reddish-brown exfoliating bark with horizontal lenticels, reminiscent of cherry bark.

Growing Conditions

‘Ivory Silk’ thrives in full sun for optimal flowering but tolerates light shade. It prefers well-drained, moist soils with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–8.0) and can adapt to loam, clay, sand, or chalk soils.
