Key Characteristics of a Stanley Plum on Myrobalan 29C Rootstock:
  • Tree Size: The Myrobalan 29C rootstock produces a standard, vigorous tree, typically reaching a mature height and spread of 16 to 20 feet (about 5-6 meters). The final size can be managed with pruning.
  • Rootstock Benefits: “Cert Myro” (Myrobalan 29C) is an improved, clonal version of the standard Myrobalan rootstock. It is known for its excellent adaptability, particularly its tolerance of wet soils, and tends to produce fewer suckers than a Myrobalan seedling. It has a vigorous and well-anchored, but shallow, root system.
  • Stanley Plum Variety: The ‘Stanley’ is a popular, reliable European (Prunus domestica) plum variety developed by Cornell University in New York.
      • Fruit: It produces large, oval-shaped prune plums with dark blue/purple skin and a sweet, yellowish-green, freestone flesh that is excellent for fresh eating, canning, preserves, and drying. The flesh turns purplish-red when canned.
      • Pollination: It is self-pollinating (self-fertile), making it a good choice for home gardeners who only have space for one tree. However, planting it with another European plum variety (like ‘Mount Royal’ or ‘Italian Prune’) will increase the yield.
  • Hardiness & Disease: ‘Stanley’ is a hardy and reliable producer suitable for zones 5-9. It is relatively disease-resistant but can be susceptible to black knot.
  • Bearing Age: Trees typically begin bearing fruit within 2-3 years of planting
  • 1/2″ diameter approx. 4′ tall at pickup

Trees are sold as bareroots (not potted) and will be available for pickup from May 2nd-4th, 2026.

Potted trees will be available in May, for $10 more per tree, subject to availability.
